It's difficult to articulate thoughts for a three star review, but you've done a good job. Pacing is hugely important in novels, especially stories that are weighed down with sad events like this one is. It sounds like a little more polishing would have made this book four or five stars.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-120760076447564855.post-47482684753283272082013-09-26T14:32:36.141-04:002013-09-26T14:32:36.141-04:00Everything Breaks does sound like a book with an i...Everything Breaks does sound like a book with an interesting premise Melissa, I think I would be interested to see what decision Tucker decides to make, but I think the complexity of the story probably wouldn't work for me. From your review, it seems that the book does deliver up to an extent though.
I love that the main character is well-fleshed out and there's a lot of character development. On the other hand, the too much details would frustrate me too especially if I can't get what the author wants to show.
Thank you for the lovely honest review, Melissa.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-120760076447564855.post-61565123652676311622013-09-26T09:42:07.809-04:002013-09-26T09:42:07.809-04:00Does that dog have glowing red eyes? That's a little creepy, reminds me of the dogs that scarred me for life in Ghostbusters:) I love that the characters in this one are so tangible and well done, that's a huge highlight, but it's a shame we get a lot of detail in all the wrong places. You know I love my explanations for things, and I think that would the case even more so given the setup of this story. Not sure this is the book for me, but beautiful review as usual!Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14199685365145765394noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-120760076447564855.post-60535800674137697802013-09-26T08:26:32.361-04:002013-09-26T08:26:32.361-04:00This sounds really sad. It's like you didn't love it and didn't really hate it, it was just "okay" so it's much harder to come up with any enthusiasm when writing about it. Sometimes it is hard to figure what didn't work in a book like this. Technically speaking, it ticks all the right boxes so it's really hard to pinpoint the reason it didn't have the "wow" factor. Wonderful review, Melissa! :)Rachelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16682335183798720529noreply@blogger.com
