Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine, and specifically spotlights upcoming novels we can't wait to read. As always, there are some amazing upcoming books, but this week I'm particularly excited for...
Title: This Is Not a Test
Author: Courtney Summers
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Publish Date: June 19, 2012
Genre: YA, Dystopian
Pages: Unknown
It’s the end of the world. Six students have taken cover in Cortege High but shelter is little comfort when the dead outside won’t stop pounding on the doors. One bite is all it takes to kill a person and bring them back as a monstrous version of their former self. To Sloane Price, that doesn’t sound so bad. Six months ago, her world collapsed and since then, she’s failed to find a reason to keep going. Now seems like the perfect time to give up.
As Sloane eagerly waits for the barricades to fall, she’s forced to witness the apocalypse through the eyes of five people who actually want to live. But as the days crawl by, everyone’s motivations to survive begin to change in startling ways and soon the group’s fate is determined less and less by what’s happening outside and more and more by the unpredictable and violent bids for life–and death–inside.
When everything is gone, what do you hold on to?
For those who don't really know me and my blog's penchant for the dark and twisty, I should probably inform you that A) I love zombies, B) I like dark stories and C) The more tension and life/death situations, the better. It sounds as though This Is Not a Test has the best of all of my favourites. AND it has a crazy, gorgeous cover (with blood splatters?!) Plus, the author is an incredibly powerful writer, so I'm interested to see how this plays out. I'm sensing a touch of The Walking Dead. This excites me immensely. What do you think, and what are you waiting on this week?
This sounds so good! It looks so original and different from what's out there at the moment. Hopefully it can live up to that!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds awesome!! the cover looks awesome!

I can't really think of a better combination than this. Courtney Summers and Zombies, yes please! Great pick :0)
ReplyDeleteMy WOW
I'm really excited for This Is Not A Test because: a) It's Courtney Summers! & b) Zombies! (Enough said, don't you think?)
ReplyDeleteGreat WoW pick, Melissa! :)
Agreed. This does look good.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely looking forward to this one, it's bound to be great. Awesome pick! :D
ReplyDeleteI think I'm too much of a sissy for this book, the synopsis and cover freak me out. Is her neck broken? It's at such a creepy angle and then there's the blood spatters and the whole things about zombies and now I've worked myself up into a frenzy of wussiness and need to take a deep breath:) The cover is beautiful though even if it is utterly disturbing.
ReplyDeleteEeek...zombies and dystopia/apocalypse. Definitely not for me. But in theory it sounds good :-)
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen this one yet! Oh and I'm lovin' Dystopia right now! I'll have to keep my eye open for this one!!!

ReplyDeleteThis is Not a Test sounds awesome! I love dark books as well, and I'm looking forward to seeing Courtney's take on zombies! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm actually super excited for this book. I really do love Courtney Summers work and I'm really interested to see how she takes her amazing writing from contemporary into fantasy. I really hope we see all the twistedness of her regular plots in this one!
ReplyDeleteSo far Fall For Anything is the only Courtney Summers book I've read. I really enjoyed it and hopefully I'll get around to reading her other books soon since I've heard such good things about Some Girls Are and Cracked Up to Be.
ReplyDeleteThis is Not a Test sounds really different from her other three books but also really promising so I hope I'll get to read it soon :)
