Monday Movie Review #14 - Iron Man 2

Monday, May 17, 2010

With the world now aware of his dual life as the armored superhero Iron Man, billionaire inventor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) faces pressure from the government, the press, and the public to share his technology with the military. Unwilling to let go of his invention, Stark, along with Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and James "Rhodey" Rhodes (Don Cheadle) at his side, must forge new alliances -- and confront powerful enemies.
Taken from IMDB.

I enjoyed the first Iron Man. I really did. While the cast, including Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow wasn't that stellar in the first, it was still entertaining, and there was a legitimate plot. This brilliant scientist had an awesome alter-ego, and he wanted to make a difference.

Enter the sequel, Iron Man 2. Frankly, I'm not quite sure where to start with this one. It wasn't bad, but it was definitely a halfhearted sequel. I think with a sophomore release, you really need to step up your game...which this didn't. A lot of the film involved poorly shot fighting scenes, absolutely disgusting bathroom humour, and (honestly) a lack of originality that takes skill to be that unoriginal. That said, it's clear they were setting up a third film, and I really don't think I'll be checking out the next installment.

I give this film a halfhearted 2.5 out of 5 for the boring "adventure." This, of course, is just my opinion, so if you want to run out and see it, feel free! I, however, probably should have waited until the DVD came out.

  3. I completely agree with you. I felt the same way about it and I loved the first Iron Man. I was disappointed with this one. I thought the trailer was more entertaining than the entire movie.

  4. Aw... I've heard good things about this one. Still, I haven't seen the first yet. Yes, I know... I must hang my head in shame until I rent the DVD. So, I will most likely rent this one as well.

  5. My family saw this in the theater, and they seems to like it as well as they liked the first one. I can definitely wait for the DVD.

  6. I saw this last weekend, I think. I kind of agree with you - some parts were entertaining, but the fighting just didn't cut it.
