Harbinger by Sara Wilson Etienne Artwork Reveal

Thursday, December 8, 2011

These days, it's really difficult for a book in the YA market to truly stand out from the crowd. Ever since I saw the cover and read the synopsis of Harbinger by Sara Wilson Etienne, however, I've been captivated.

There is a darkness to the premise, and there is a twisted undercurrent that I'm just thrilled to experience. Plus, it doesn't hurt that the cover artwork is phenomenal. I'm so excited to say that I'm a part of Sara's art reveal project, with each piece representing a scene in the book. Check out the synopsis and art below to see what has fans buzzing way before the release date!

When sixteen-year-old Faye arrives at Holbrook Academy, she doesn’t expect to find herself exactly where she needs to be. After years of strange waking visions and nightmares, her only comfort the bones of dead animals, Faye is afraid she’s going crazy. Fast.

But her first night at Holbrook, she feels strangely connected to the school and the island it sits on, like she’s come home. She’s even made her first real friends, but odd things keep happening to them. Every morning they wake on the floors of their dorm rooms with their hands stained red.

Faye knows she’s the reason, but what does it all mean? The handsome Kel tries to help her unravel the mystery, but Faye is certain she can’t trust him; in fact, he may be trying to kill her—and the rest of the world too.
And now, for the fascinating art by Ken Min:

  4. i LOVE an excellent marketing campaign, and this is one of those!

i fell in love with this cover the second i first saw it and knew that i'd probably love the book no matter what the premise. after reading the summary, it sounds for sure like something i'd love.

for me, the red ribbon is what pushes me over the edge - i'm an absolutely SUCKER for splashes of red in a cover. i go bonkers for it, truly. while there are a bazillion things i could point out that are truly beautiful about this art, it is the red that really does it for me.

it must be really exciting to be a part of this, melissa! i will be waiting not-so-patiently to hear your thoughts!

  6. WOW - insanely fabulous way to build buzz for a book! I LOVE the cover for the book with the blood on the moon and the scarlet blindfold - captivating, and I am not usually a cover person. As for today's artwork - I WANT IT ON MY WALL! It looks like it was painted on floorboards, and I love the message - always keep one eye open indeed!

  9. I do love illustrations behind novels. I like to see how things I've read in novels are perceived by others. Plus, artists tend to have this totally different vision when it comes to ideas and I like to see their spin on it.

  10. That is so cool! I hope I can remember to do this!
The book sounds really interesting, a girl who can only find solace in animal bones??? I gotta read that! You do find the most interesting books!
