The Open Was Upon Us

Saturday, April 6, 2013

So, a brief five weeks ago, all those in the world of CrossFit were buzzing with excitement because (and I quote) "the open is upon us." Now, I can officially say that the Open was upon us, and we're officially done. Ok, well, I'm being a tiny bit hasty because I still have to do 13.5, aka the last workout, one more time tomorrow.

For those of you that don't know what the Open is (I don't blame you), it's a series of five insane workouts released by Dave Castro and CrossFit HQ that Crossfitters worldwide do in the hopes of scoring a chance to go Regionals. From Regionals, you can qualify for the Games. For the elite, this is it. For those more like me - attempting to make it through a single WOD without dying - this is to gauge your abilities and train for next year.

Last year, I was just a baby Crossfitter. I watched these crazy athletes doing insane workouts and though to myself, "self, they're insane." This year, however, I found myself just as excited as the rest of them, and even though I don't stand an ice cube's chance in hell of getting to the Games, or even Regionals, I'm so proud I did it.

There was a lot of this:

But, let's be honest. It was mostly this:

  1. Do you read the Carrots and Cake blog? She lives in the Boston area and is really into Cross fit.

  2. Ooooh I don't. Ten bucks says I know (of) her :D Thanks!

  3. Her name is Tina Haupert. And her husbands name is Mal. She has a big food and fitness blog.

  4. This looks pretty intense! I've been trying to get into exercising more, especially as I'd like to build up stamina and endurance. At the moment, my weapon of choice is Blogilates ;)

  5. haha! it wasn't so much a conscious decision to get fit that made me start was more the fact that I desperately needed an outlet for stress!

  6. I love watching the crossfit games! A lot of my workouts with the evil trainer had crossfit elements, but I've never been to a box.

  7. I need motivation to loose weight. Watching you do all of this inspires me.

  8. Dude! I keep seeing so many people participate in CrossFit. It looks terrifying...

  9. That does look super intense...and makes me realize how totally out of shape I am...I should do something about that...though I doubt this would ever be it! lol

    Welcome back :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! I always do my very best to return the favour :)
