Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. The feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists over at The Broke and the Bookish.
Each week they will post a new top ten list that one of our bloggers at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All they ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a great way to get to know your fellow bloggers.
Top Ten Beach Reads
1. Raw Blue by Kirsty Eagar - Why, you ask? Well, it's a beachy read, peoples. It's about a surfer. Granted, it's a bit darker than you might want for your normal beach read, but trust me when I say that this is a book you must read...preferably on the beach...in one sitting. Ready? Go.
2. The Rules of Summer by Joanna Philbin - If you haven't read anything by her, you probably should because you're missing out. Plus, it's a sweet, fun, fast-paced and well-written book that will totally brighten a beach day.
3. Purity by Jackson Pearce - It's not my all-time favourite by Ms. Pearce, but it's an engaging and engrossing read that you'll totally devour in one sitting. Plus, it's just quirky enough for you to want to do so.
4. Gossip Girl by Cecily von Ziegesar - While you're at it though, read the whole dang series. Personally, I hated the show, but these books are fun, guilty-pleasure reads for me, for sure. I bet you you'll love them if you try them.
5. Many Waters by Madeleine L'Engle - This has been a favourite of mine since my childhood. It's a modern version of the Biblical story of Noah's Arc with just a twist of sci-fi, a touch of romance and a whole lot of drama. It's perfection, in my humble opinion.
6. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling - I dare you to ask me to have a list without HP on it. Seriously. I dare you. But really, I've been taking these books with me to the beach since day one. Granted, I've been taking them pretty much everywhere, but that's besides the point. Just do it.
7. My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick - Summery, sweet, romantic, adorable and just plain fun - this is one of those books that I enjoyed so much I couldn't even put it into words. Seriously though, it's the perfect summery and beachy read.
8. Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler - Okay, this is another that's a bit heavier than your average beach read, but a lot of it actually takes place on the beach, so that has to count for something, right? Plus, it's heartfelt, emotional, sweet, endearing and, well, pretty darn great.
9. Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson - This is another one of those summer reads that's perfect for a beach day, a road-trip, lying out in the grass...actually, just reading it anywhere. If you haven't read it yet, you probably should.
10. Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen - I swore off Ms. Dessen's books when I first started blogging, but trust me when I saw I was wrong. This is the type of book you can lie in the sun reading all day. Just bring a cool drink, a wide-brimmed hat, plenty of sunscreen and get lost in the characters' story.
I loved Amy and Roger's! I still need to read her second book. And of course Rules of Summer.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until you read Rules of Summer! I so want to compare notes! :)
DeleteI love how Raw Blue makes it to your different lists all the time Melissa, that certainly was a book which left a great impression with me too! I still have to read so many books from your list, so will try and give some of them a go over the Summer. Brilliant picks Melissa! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jasprit! Honestly, Raw Blue is one of the best books I've ever read, so I'm pretty sure no list would be complete without it :)
DeleteI'm glad Along for the Ride pulled you back to read Sarah Dessen's work. That book is one of my favorites. Yesssss at Amy & Roger's Epic Detour. A beach read list always need a book about road trips. :D
ReplyDeleteRight?! I need to read more of Dessen's work. I've always put it off, but she has some great books! :)
DeleteGreat list! I love to read Gossip Girl on the beach too:)

Thank you, Eveline! You can't go wrong with Gossip Girl! ;)
DeleteI am so tempted to ditch Teaser Tuesday and start this meme. I mean... it's serieously fun to read! I got Morgan Matson's books from the library today and cannot wait to dig in. Glad that you enjoyed it too.
ReplyDeleteFantastic list. <33
Thank you, Melanie! I used to do Teaser Tuesday when I first started my blog, but I got bored with it. Plus, I don't do too many meme's, so I have to be picky with those that I choose!
DeleteHello! I loved your list. I haven't read My Life Next Door yet, but I really want to! And it sounds great - also Sarah Dessen - i've sworn off some of her books too but Along for the Ride sounds interesting and I want to read her new book To The Moon and Back - Great list! Have you read Nantucket Blue? I forgot to put that on my list, but think that's a great one too!
ReplyDeleteI haven't actually read Nantucket Blue, though I've been pondering buying a copy...I'll have to do so now! Thanks for dropping by! :)
DeleteYou can't have a list without HP. HP goes with everything including sand!
ReplyDeleteAMEN to that, Mary! :)
DeleteDefinitely agree with Harry Potter, it made my list too! There's quite a few on here I still need to read but they all sound great - especially Amy & Roger's Epic Detour! Great list :)
ReplyDeleteMy TTT!
Thanks, Hannah! Amy & Roger will always be on my list for summer reads:)
DeleteMy Life made my list, too. I have 20 Boy Summer checked out from the library, but haven't gotten to it yet. Great list!

I sure hope you do, Natalie! I thought I was going to hate it, but I ended up loving it :)
DeleteDamn it, Melissa! Lol. You keep making me buy books.....
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome ;)
DeleteHarry Potter is on my list this week too. It's true, you really can take them anywhere!
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten
Right?! I'm so glad to see that people agree with that philosophy haha
DeleteI think I need to try Sarah Dessen Melissa! Is Along for the Ride the one you would recommend most? I grabbed a copy of her new one at BEA, but it's only gotten so so reviews, so I'd like to start with something stronger I think:) LOVED My Life Next Door, I need more Huntley Fitzpatrick immediately!
ReplyDeleteI think that Along for the Ride is the best place to start with Dessen, for sure, Jenny. Some of her books work for me, but others definitely don't!
DeleteYES to the Harry Potter!
ReplyDeleteRight?!
DeleteThere are some of my favorite books up there in your list, Melissa! But there are also some that I've never heard of. Definitely need to check some of the books on your list when I go book shopping this weekend. I need some light summery beach books to spend my summer.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your list, Melissa! :)
You're very welcome, Nick! It's always great to find new reads :)
DeleteRaw Blue! I have SO much love for that book and I think it's time for a re-read. I also loved My Life Next Door which kind of surprised me since I usually dislike that type of read. i just recently read my first Sarah Dessen book and I'll be adding this to my tbr as well.
ReplyDeleteRight?! It's one of the very first contemps that I absolutely loved on this blog :)
DeleteI'm not familiar with your titles but the covers indicate they would be great beach reads. Thanks for sharing. kelley—the road goes ever ever on
ReplyDeleteAnytime, Kelley! I hope you give some of them a go! :)
DeleteAlong for the Ride has been on a boatload of lists today. It is one of my favorites by her. Probably the first book of hers (though, not the last) that I stayed up all night reading. I seriously NEED to read Amy and Roger! So many people have said it's a great summer read.
ReplyDelete~ Gabbi
My top ten! :)
Amy & Roger is so, so good...I hope you give it a go! :)
DeleteHarry Potter! Great pick, I don´t know how I didn´t add it in my post. New follower =)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Juliet! It tends to be on every list of mine haha
DeleteRAW BLUE is soooo good, but you're right a bit heavier. Love MY LIFE NEXT DOOR and I'd like to read MANY WATERS. That sounds pretty fascinating. I was in love with her WRINKLE IN TIME series as a child, but a Noah retelling sounds awesome. Thanks for visiting my TTT!
ReplyDeleteNo need to thank me at all! MANY WATERS is actually the fourth book in her TIME series, but it's from the boys' perspective, which is great :)
DeleteI hope you like Sarah Ocker's work - she has some great stuff! :)
ReplyDeleteGah - Rules of Summer - I forgot that one my on list. Loved that book!
ReplyDeleteIt's truly impossible to make a list without Harry Potter - that series is too fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes to ALONG FOR THE RIDE - I almost chose it, but I already had THE TRUTH ABOUT FOREVER on my list.
Fantastic choices! :)
I loved Amy and Roger's Epic Detour, but I haven't read any of those other books. I haven't even read a Sarah Dessen book yet, but I hope to pick up a copy of her new book soon. Great post!
ReplyDelete-Danna
I love Raw Blue, HP, and Along for the Ride - I'll definitely be checking out some of the other titles on this list, though. They seem perfect to tackle this summer! :)
ReplyDeleteRaw Blue, for sure! Lots of good ones on this list but right now I'm really wanting to read Along for the Ride, I'm in the mood for a good Sarah Dessen book!
ReplyDeleteMy Life Next Door is the PERFECT beach read. Omigosh I love that book. So perfect AND summery. If that makes sense. ;) I must read Raw Blue but it's an Australian book so I have no idea where to get it. :o
ReplyDeleteI love your list! I need to read some of these, especially Raw Blue! I've been meaning to read it for the longest time, but my library doesn't have it. I should just buy it. And Harry Potter is always a good choice! :D Great picks, Melissa!
ReplyDeletehaha, Melissa, I do quite enjoy how you always seem to manage to squeeze HP into your list somewhere every week!! But I totally agree, of course - it's always a good choice on any list! Unfortunately, I don't think I'll make it to a beach this summer as there are none remotely close to me. But it seems to me like you made really great choices here for if I did!
ReplyDeleteYou better believe it! I'm lucky enough to have a beach right now, but let's be honest...these work at lakes, too ;)
DeleteI loved My Life Next Door and I think any Dessen book would be an awesome choice for a summer read. I'm a big fan but I haven't read Along For the Ride yet. Great choices, Melissa! :)
