Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine, and specifically spotlights upcoming novels we can't wait to read. As always, there are some amazing upcoming books, but this week I'm particularly excited for…
Title: Torn Away
Author: Jennifer Brown (Twitter)
Publisher: Little, Brown BYR
Publish Date: May 6, 2014
Genre: YA, Contemporary
Pages: 288
Born and raised in the Midwest, Jersey Cameron knows all about tornadoes. Or so she thinks. When her town is devastated by a twister, Jersey survives -- but loses her mother, her young sister, and her home. As she struggles to overcome her grief, she's sent to live with her only surviving relatives: first her biological father, then her estranged grandparents. In an unfamiliar place, Jersey faces a reality she's never considered before -- one in which her mother wasn't perfect, and neither were her grandparents, but they all loved her just the same. Together, they create a new definition of family. And that's something no tornado can touch.
There are few contemporary novels that have made it onto my all-time favourites list, and there are probably far fewer authors that have made it onto that same list for me. Jennifer Brown, however, is definitely up there on the top of my list, so you'd better believe I have my eye on all her new and upcoming releases. Torn Away strikes me as one of those books that's going to make you work to find happiness, and you guys know how I like my contemps dark, rich and real. Needless to say, I can't wait. What do you think, and what are you waiting on this week?
This sounds so tragic. I think Torn Away might be one of those books that you have to break out the "In Case of Feels" tissues!

I know how much you adore Jennifer's work Melissa, so hope this book lives up to your expectations. I love my dark realistic contemporaries too, so will definitely be adding this to my tbr! Another brilliant pick! :)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds super intense, but very good. I can't say I have read a book with this unique premise before. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteI still haven't read anything by Jennifer Brown, how much do I fail? So much. I haven't read anything about tornadoes either, and despite living in the midwest, I've been lucky to escape any personal experience with them. This book sounds like a complete win Melissa!
ReplyDeleteI am stalking Edelweiss and Netgalley in hopes this pops up. I LOVE LOVE LOVE all books Jennifer Brown. Great pick.
