Top Ten Tuesday: Books with Words as Cover Art

Tuesday, June 24, 2014

Cover art is always, always, always evolving, as I'm sure you know if you've been an avid reader for some time. It's always been something that's fascinated for me, and while some trends work for me, others really don't. I think that, first and foremost, covers need to work with their content, so if they don't, that tends to lead me astray…but, as you know, there are always the exceptions to the rule!

I Love…Distorted Faces, Words as Cover Art & Backs on the Cover

I Love…Movement on Covers, Bright Colours, Partial Faces

I Love…Mirror Effects, Illustrations, Repetition, Objects Instead of People

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature from The Broke and the Bookish.

  1. OOoh nice! I loved the original cover for Antigoddess too! The new ones aren't too bad but I hate sudden cover changes like that!

  5. I feel like I'll never get tired of the mirror reflection or, even better, the covers which feature water. (I can never stop staring at the Imaginary Girls cover!) Fantastic Top Ten, Melissa! :)

  6. I'm in complete agreement with the preference for illustrated covers over those with photographs. There is just something special about those beautifully drawn illustrated covers! I'm drawn to them...pun intended! Haha

  9. I love how different the covers you've picked are too all the Top Ten posts I've read today Melissa! I do like pretty covers, but I also do like them to stand out and be a bit different to, like some of the ones you've mentioned; In a Handful of Dust and Linked are absolutely stunning! Brilliant top ten Melissa!
