The Fault in Our Stars Official Trailer

Thursday, January 30, 2014

Most of you know that I put off reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Green for a long time - mostly because of the hype of the book - and partially because I was pretty sure that I was going to be the only blogger in the entire world that didn't like the book. Needless to say, I was wrong on both accounts. The hype was not only well-deserved, but I should have listened to it. Also, the book was so incredible that I cried like an infant reading it on a plane in just 5 hours.

When I heard it was optioned as a film though, I was really upset. Let's be honest. 99% of the time, book-to-film adaptations just don't live up. (My Sister's Keeper, anyone? Talk about a trainwreck.) There's something different about this one though, and it has me incredibly excited to see it. I even think that Shailene Woodley might just work as Hazel, which is something I never thought I'd say. Check out the official trailer below:

I was actually, for the most part, pleasantly surprised about the trailer, and it gives me just a smidge of hope that it might live up to its literary counterpart. I'd be really interested to see what you all think though!

Have you read The Fault in Our Stars
What do you think of the trailer and, most of all, are you excited to see the movie?

  1. I haven't read the TFIOS yet, because like you, I'm too scared of the hype and because I know I will cry my eyes out. I made the mistake of watching the trailer last night while my roommate was in the room and was so teary-eyed and wanted to bawl.
I'm not going to watch this in public because I'll be a mess of tears and snot.

  2. I read TFiOS last year and LOVED it. John Green is such an awesome author. I really, really liked the trailer for the movie as well. I feel like the casting is spot on and I have a feeling the movie won't disappoint. *fingers crossed*

  3. I'm really hoping the movie doesn't disappoint! I loved the book, but I'm nervous to see the movie because of that. I'm sure I'll still like it, I just don't want it to be completely different from the book (like My Sister's Keeper)

  4. I still need to read this book Melissa! *ducks* I just know I'm going to be a sobbing, emotional mess so I keep putting it off. I love books that make me cry, but I am downright terrified of this book. One day, when I'm not as big of a chicken, I'm going to tackle it:) I do really like the trailer though, I hope the entire movie works as well as this little teaser!

  5. Yeah, usually the movies just don't work for me (Dangerous Creatures, I'm looking at you. You sucked as a movie!!) but this one looks fabulous! I loved the book. It made me cry. Darn you, John Green! *shakes fist*

  6. Like you, Melissa, this trailer gives me so much hope that this film will be amazing. John Green loves it and Shailene's acting in the past has been phenomenal so I have complete faith in her ability to portray Hazel. I can't wait till this releases now!

  9. Like you Melissa, I waited a really long time to read TFIOS. I was just scared of it. But I loved it! John Green seems to have been there a lot during the filming and he's excited for the movie. I think for that reason alone, it will stay true to the book. I think he is probably a force to be reckoned with when he wants something and he'd want the movie to be the book as close as possible. That trailer is so great, it almost makes me cry remembering those moments.

  12. I was skeptical about Shailene Woodley (I'm still not sure about her being Tris), but I think from the trailer, she could pull off Hazel.

This trailer gives me hope that it will live up to the novel. If it's anything like the book, I will probably burst into tears at the end...

  13. I was also really wary when I heard it being adapted for the screen. TFiOS is one of my favourite books ever, and I didn't want the magic of the book to be ruined by the movie. And honestly, the first time I watched this trailer, I really didn't like it. I was so disappointed! I left it a couple of days, and then decided to watch it again. Because I have FEELINGS about that book, and I thought maybe they were getting in the way. So I watched it again, and the more I watch it, the more I like it. Now I'm really looking forward to its release in June!
