Waiting on Wednesday: Loud Awake and Lost

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine, and specifically spotlights upcoming novels we can't wait to read. As always, there are some amazing upcoming books, but this week I'm particularly excited for...

Publisher: Knopf BYR
Publish Date: November 12, 2013
Genre: YA, Thriller
Pages: 304

LOUD. There was an accident. Ember knows at least that much. She was driving. The car was totaled. She suffered back injuries and brain trauma. But she is alive. That's the only thing left she can cling to.

AWAKE. Eight months later, Ember feels broken. The pieces of her former self no longer fit together. She can't even remember the six weeks of her life leading up to the accident. Where was she going? Who was she with? And what happened during those six weeks that her friends and family won't talk about?

LOST. One by one, Ember discovers the answers to these questions, like a twisted game of dominos. And little by little, the person she used to be slips further and further away.
There's a little something wrong with me. Of this, I am certain. I'm terrified of horror films and books, but I always have to watch them. Psychological thrillers creep me out for weeks, but I can't help but always, always experience them. It's a dirty, twisted little habit. I digress. The point is, I absolutely love Adele's writing, and I think that Loud Awake and Lost sounds like one heck of a dark journey with a super-appealing premise. So, naturally I'm sold. Also, in related news, I'll probably never sleep again. What do you think, and what are you waiting on this week?

  11. I've only read one of Adele Griffin's books, and while it didn't blow me away, I did very much like her writing style. I have to say I'm excited about this one as well, and like you, always have to read or watch things I know will scare me or keep me up late thinking about them. Except for super gory slasher films. Those I cannot do. Adding this to the list for sure!

  12. Bahaha, your habit is kind of like when in the movies, the girl is standing in front of the closet with a clown or something in it, and you're yelling "Don't open the flipping door!!" and she opens it anyways. Terrible analogy, but whatever. ;) I'm fascinated with horror books even though they freak me out too, so don't worry, you're not alone! On another note, this book actually sounds fantastically creepy. I may have to sleep with the lights on for a few days, but I'm totally sold!

    Great pick, Melissa! <3

    1. It's a strange phenomenon, huh? I don't actually "watch" these movies...I sit there in sheer, unadulterated terror haha

  14. This is the first time that I'm hearing about this novel, and it sounds so eerie and intriguing!

I like horror movies and books, but I'll only watch/read them if other people are hanging around the house. Otherwise, my imagination starts convincing me that the sounds my house sometimes makes are actually big scary, creepy, evil noises - and then I spend the rest of the night quietly freaking out! ;)

    Nice find, Melissa! :)

  17. I'm terrified of horror films and yet watch them too :) Not so much of horror books though. Books just can't scare me THAT much (well, maybe Stephen King)
And I'm totally with you, Loud Awake and Lost sounds fascinating. Great pick!

    1. I don't think this is going to be so much of a horror as it will be a thriller...that intrigues me more ;)
