Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine, and specifically spotlights upcoming novels we can't wait to read. As always, there are some amazing upcoming books, but this week I'm particularly excited for...
Title: The Here and Now
Author: Ann Brashares (Twitter)
Publisher: Delacorte
Publish Date: April 8, 2014
Genre: YA, Contemporary
Pages: 288
Meet seventeen-year-old Prenna James, who immigrated to New York when she was twelve. Except Prenna didn’t come from a different country. She came from a different time—a future where a mosquito-borne illness has mutated into a pandemic, killing millions and leaving the world in ruins.
Prenna and the others who escaped to the present day must follow a strict set of rules: never reveal where they’re from, never interfere with history, and never, ever be intimate with anyone outside their community. Prenna does as she’s told, believing she can help prevent the plague that will one day ravage the earth. But everything changes when she falls for Ethan Jarves.
Ummmmm time travel?! Post apocalyptic time travel?! The Here and Now has me based on that alone, but seriously, what doesn't it have to offer. The author (one of my favourites, by the way) is making her foray back into teen fiction for the first time since The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and I couldn't be happier. This book sounds like it has it all - drama, love, heroism and survival. I want it all. Plus, that cover is amazing. What do you think, and what are you waiting on this week?
Post apocalyptic time travel does sound awesome! I have this on my tbr and can't wait for it to release :)

Oh wow this sounds like a brilliant read Melissa, I loved Brashares My Name is Memory, so have been meaning to read more of her books soon, I think The Here and Now sounds perfect for me, with the nice mix of time travel and romance! Thanks for putting this book on my radar! :)

Old Follower :)
I loved The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, but I'm not entirely sure how this author will manage a genre that isn't contemporary. It sounds fantastic, though, so hopefully she can pull it off! I'll be curious to see what you make of this one when it releases, Melissa!(:
ReplyDeleteThis book is also on my TBR list. I love the concept and I am so glad Brashares is writing YA novels again. I loved the Sisterhood series. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteI really like that cover! Now, she's got some writing chops so I'll be interested in seeing how this one goes.
ReplyDeleteThe cover is really nice and the synopsis sounds great too! Can't wait to read this one either.

Yeeeesss, I love time travel. It's enough to convince me to take a look when it comes out. Hopefully, this book does the time traveling aspect well.
