Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by
Jill from
Breaking the Spine, and specifically spotlights upcoming novels we can't wait to read. As always, there are some amazing upcoming books, but this week I'm particularly excited for...
Title: Dead Rules
Author: Randy Russell
Release Date: July 1, 2011
Publisher: HarperTeenSometimes falling in love means you've got to kill somebody. Jana Webster and Michael Haynes were destined to be together forever. Of that, Jana was sure. But Jana just died—in a bowling accident. And now she’s trapped in Dead School. Jana is certain that it won’t be long before Michael kills himself in order to spend eternity with her—but the days are passing and Michael is, inexplicably, still alive. So Jana decides to take matters into her own hands. And nothing—not even Dead School bad boy Mars Dreamcote’s enticingly warm touch or the devastating secret he holds about her death—will stop her from making her dreams come true.
Taken from Goodreads.I saw the cover for
Dead Rules, and I was sold in a heartbeat. I'm not afraid to admit that I judge books by their covers more often than not, but
Dead Rules has a really enticing premise, too. I like the whole afterlife context and the idea of a selfish MC that's almost narcissistic enough to think her boyfriend would die to continue being with her. I sense some wicked dark humour in this story, and it makes me giddy with glee! What do you think...and what are you waiting on this week?
Popular feature today:)Sounds very interesting, thanks for sharing!

Awesome~! I usually judge books mostly because of the cover, and Dead Rules has a beautiful, but a bit creepy cover! I love the whole premise too. I wonder what Jana would do to get Michael to "die".
ReplyDeleteHere's our WoW picks for this week!
I have not heard of this one yet. It sounds good though! The whole being dead thing is a bit different, and I like different! Nice pick.
ReplyDeleteThat cover is really beautiful, it's sold me as well! I'm with you on the humor, there's got to be some to keep the idea of someone wanting their boyfriend to die since they're dead from being too heavy or serious. Looking forward to reading this one!
ReplyDeleteYup, this novel pretty much seems amazing. The cover is great and the summary just makes it better. I'm dying for this one as well. Awesome pick!

"Sometimes falling in love means you've got to kill somebody." !!!!!!!!!!!! What! That is the most absurd sentence ever written.
ReplyDeleteThis is a book I wanted to read too! I added it to my Amazon Wishlist hoping to get it!! :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Melissa! Thank you so much for noticing DEAD RULES. I lucked out and have full art/photo for the back of the cover, as well. This time, it's a boy. Both photo manips are by the same young photographer, Miss-Deathwish at deviantart.com And she's still a teenager. I really love the fact that HarperTeen found her for the book.
ReplyDeleteDead School? Interesting. I will definitely be looking forward to your review on this one :)
ReplyDeleteI judge books by their covers too, and between the cover and the description it sounds like "dark humor" as you said is definitely going to be a strong feature of this book. Nice pick!

Wow! Gorgeous cover. And I love the idea behind it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Anna! Also, death by bowling accident? How does that happen? Did bowling balls magically drop on her head? Or did she choke on her nacho cheese? Hmm, this book will be worth reading JUST to answer that question! :P
ReplyDeleteIt is a new and interesting idea so I will probably be buying it! Great pick! *goes to Goodreads to add to TBR*
Haven't seen this one around before -- hope you like it when it comes out!
