Waiting on Wednesday 10/5

Wednesday, October 5, 2011

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine, and specifically spotlights upcoming novels we can't wait to read. As always, there are some amazing upcoming books, but this week I'm particularly excited for...

Title: The Fault in Our Stars
Author: John Green
Publisher: Dutton Juvenile
Publish Date: January 12, 2012
Genre: YA, Contemporary
Pages: 272

Green stated, "The title is inspired by a famous line from Shakespeare's play, Julius Caesar. The nobleman Cassius says to Brutus, 'The fault, dear Brutus is not in our stars, / But in ourselves, that we are underlings.'"

Green also promised that every copy of the first printing will be hand-signed by him. He proposed that the general public vote on the color Sharpie he will use to sign the book. The voting resulted in him signing the books with a variety of Sharpie colors, each in proportion to the amount of votes received for that color. He has also been allowing fans to submit their book cover designs.

The book focuses on a girl named Hazel who is suffering from terminal cancer and is forced by her parents to attend a support group.
Ok. Seriously? I can't find any information about this book at all. Not kidding. I perused the web for hours, and hours and hours. What did I come up with? Nadda. Fine, that one last sentence in bold up there. That's what I know. So why am I so excited for this one? Well, folks, it's John Green. That's your answer, in and of itself. Basically, I have no official cover, no official synopsis and pretty much a release date and an author to go on, and I'm salivating for this one. That's that. I'm sold. But seriously...you should see some of the fan covers made for this one...the one I used is just one example! What do you think, and what are you waiting on this week?

  3. Didn't know he had another book slated to come out yet! I tried one of his books and wasn't able to get into it, but maybe I need to try a different one? I love his videos, and I've read positive reviews of his books...must be just me :) Lol.

  5. Wow. That's not a lot to go on is it? Kind of makes me want to read it even more though so I can find out everything there is to know:) Now I'm salivating right along with you so by the time January roles around we are bound to be stunning masses of drool. Awesome.

  6. He must be some great author if you are so excited about a book that you know next to nothing specific about, lol.

That cover is disturbing...I keep staring at it, trying to figure it out.

  7. Sounds powerful and that's an awesome promise on the part of the author. Makes me respect him and I don't even know him ;)

  9. I haven't read any of John Green's books (I know, I know!). But everyone only has good things to say, so I guess I'm excited for this too!

  10. Great WOW! I've been trying and failing to find a synopsis for this one too...it's very difficult. Love the cover you ended up finding though,

I can't wait to see the actual cover + summary! Hopefully they'll post them soon :)

  12. John Green is reason enough to read a book! I've already got this bad boy on pre-order; can't wait for January to get here! :)

  13. There were some fantastic fan made covers. I almost wish that they don't reveal the cover at all until the book is sent out. I already have 2 pre-orders of this. I can't wait! Great pick!

  14. I have a huge author-crush on John Green. I met him twice in person and he even remembered my name. Squee! I already pre-ordered this one not because of the signature but because it's his book. He's on my auto-read and I love all of his books so far!

  15. Is the main character's cancer of the lungs? If not, I wonder why this fan decided to illustrate the cover with lungs? If so, how did the fan find out more about the plot than you did?!

  16. Where have I been!? This is the first time I'm seeing this cover! WOW! Love it!

  17. I've heard of the title but knew nothing about this book. Can't go wrong with John Green though! I really like the cover too.

  18. Hey at least you found the cover a month ago that wasn't even out. But when it comes to Green I will read whatever he writes. Love the man! Great pick!

  19. This is hilarious!! I did the exact same thing today. I wanted to use this as my WoW, because how excited am I for anything John Green related??? Hours and nothing so I thought to heck with it, i'm not posting a WoW out of protest. Also, side note, that is perhaps my favourite of the fan made covers!!

    The mystery is killing me!

  20. I can't believe he is going to sign every copy of the 1st printing. Seriously, I want it for that reason alone. I love when authors take the time to realize they have fans. It makes me feel cool for three point five seconds. :D

  21. That's a truly freaky cover. And no blurb or anything yet? Still, I do love me some John Green, even if he does seem to be a but nutso lately (signing every 1st print book? His hand will fall off!).

  22. No info at all? Now that is weird. And cancer, sad :/

But cool cover a fan made :D

  23. LOL! I thought that this was the official cover at first and I was thinking to myself: WHY DIDN'T I KNOW THAT THE COVER WAS RELEASED! I think it's kind of funny that I JUST realized that I have this book pre-ordered but I have no friggin clue what it's about. Wow.

  24. Oh, I have to agree with you on this one!! I mean seriously, it's John frickin' Green! I cannot wait!

    Heather

I think you know a lot about a book that I know nothing about and haven't found anything about either.

  25. That's not the official cover? How sad, because it is awesome. It completely grabbed my attention and said "Read me."
Hopefully a little more will be released on this one soon.

  26. I'm really looking forward to this one as well, and I seriously can't wait to hear what it's exactly about. However, I'm sure it will amazing! Great pick!
