I really want to read this book for two (related) reasons: I will soon be a teacher (middle school, hopefully) so, despite having attended multiple GLBT panels, I think the better understanding I have about how bullying takes place, especially in my classroom, the better I will be as an advocate for my students. Also, I think this would be a great book to have on my classroom bookshelf for my students to access.
I can't wait until we get this book in at my library. I'm so glad that there are books like this now at least. :)
ReplyDeleteI work with high school students and every class seems to have a "token gay" who gets whispered about. This book would be a good resource to have available to them. (After one student ate a stick of butter upon dares from his classmates, I told him about BUTTER by Erin Jade Lange releasing this fall and he said, "Wow, I need to get this book.")

The video made me tear up a little. I was not a popular kid in High School and it was a very hard time in my life. I can't wait to read this because it has the potential to change some lives and make them much more bearable.
I've heard a lot about this book and love the strength and message it has within. Growing up in a largely conservative town, I witnessed a lot of hate and prejudice toward the LGBT community and absolutely hated it - it's one of the few "causes" (for lack of a better word) I stand against very publicly and very loudly. More than that though, I was definitely an awkward, fat kid growing up and felt so burdened by it, like my world would crumble any second. I love that this book is about those who have made it past, those that went through the struggles and can look back on it and know that You is a You to be proud of, just as You are. I'd be honored to read it and spread its message.
