Waiting on Wednesday: The Blessed

Wednesday, August 1, 2012

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine, and specifically spotlights upcoming novels we can't wait to read. As always, there are some amazing upcoming books, but this week I'm particularly excited for...

Title: The Blessed
Author: Tonya Hurley
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Publish Date: September 25, 2012
Genre: YA
Pages: 400
From the author of the "New York Times" bestselling ghostgirl series, the start to a captivating and haunting teen trilogy about three girls who become entangled with an enigmatic boy--a boy who believes he is a saint. What if martyrs and saints lived among us? And what if you were told you were one of them?

Meet Agnes, Cecilia, and Lucy. Three lost girls, each searching for something. But what they find is Beyond Belief.
Well, that's not really much of a synopsis, there. Let's be honest now. However, there's something decidedly intriguing about The Blessed that makes me want to pick it up and devour it. Maybe it's the fact that the cover is eerie and just a tad too creepy. Maybe it's the fact that the synopsis really is a bit too vague. Whatever it is, there is something about the premise of this story that promises to haunt me, and those are the books I love to read. I was lucky enough to snag an ARC of this one, so here's to hoping it lives up to the hype! What do you think, and what are you waiting on this week?

  1. It does sound really creepy, in an appealing way. I'd definitely be interested enough to check it out. That cover is pretty freaky too!

  3. That cover is really weird looking, and I love that the blurb leaves so much mystery. i'd pick it up just because I don't have a clue what I'd be going into, which is part of the intrigue!

  19. Nice! Seeing this around a lot! Although the cover model freaks me out a bit! Kind of looks like a young Dakota Fanning crossed with a cartoon alien!

Still sounds like an intriguing read though! Hope you love it once you get it!

  20. I remember hearing about this one at BEA. The description is vague--and my mind automatically goes in the direction of cults. I knew a girl once who got caught up with a guy who thought he was a prophet. Very bizarre.

  21. Interesting pick!  This is the first I have seen of this book.  Is it just me, or does she look kind of like Dakota Fanning? Nice blog, new follower :-)

  23. Not really sure what to make of this one either because of the vague description. But I'm still looking forward to reading my ARC! I think it'll be quite a different read from everything else I have in my lineup over the next few months so that's a good thing.

  24. I actually thought she looked more like Amanda Seyfried, but I see what you're seeing, too! :)

  25. Great answer. There are a few books I've read that have put me in a bad mood because the heroine is dumb and has no idea what self preservation means. Comida a domicilio
