Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. The feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists over at The Broke and the Bookish. They'd love to share their lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Each week they will post a new top ten list that one of our bloggers at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All they ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.
Top Top Ten Books That Have Been On My Shelf For The Longest But I've Never Read:

1. Anna and the French Kiss - I know, I know, I know. Please don't tar and feather me. It's just that I've seen so many epic reviews of this one that I'm terrified I'll be (quite literally) the only one that hates it.

2. Torment - I read Fallen, and it wasn't bad. It wasn't amazing, but it certainly wasn't bad. I just couldn't bring myself to pick up book two because I don't want to tarnish the little impression that book one left in my mind as it is.

3. Spirit Bound - I cannot bring myself to finish this series! I really can't! I'm pretty sure it will devastate me, and I'm not sure I can take it. I mean, I hate finishing series, and I actually happened to love this one despite my reservations.

4. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - It was a gift to me and, for some reason, it never really struck my fancy. I don't know what it is about it, but I'm just not sure it's for me.

5. Forgive My Fins - Again, I really don't know why I haven't read this one. I love the colours of the cover. I love the premise. Perhaps it's a lack of time to sit down and enjoy a book, or perhaps I'm just in a mermaid funk.

6. Evermore - I read some less-than-raving reviews of this one, and I couldn't bring myself to read it after that. There's something about preserving that ideal in your mind that you don't always want to ruin.

7. The Duff - It's the content, guys. I'm sorry. I read her other book, and it wasn't so bad, but there's something about the content that just screams the sort of contemporary fiction that I don't love to read. She's a great writer, but just not of my type of book.

8. The It Girl - For some reason that continues to defy all reason, I loved the Gossip Girl book series (HATE the show). That said, I read two pages of the Jenny spinoff and went no further. this one sits stagnant on my shelf.

9. Birthmarked - I remember buying this and being so excited to read it. Then, my review queue was flooded, and I've yet to have time to read it since. One of these days I'll dust it off and give it a go!

10. Scars - I love a dark read, especially when it's emotional and pulls at the heartstrings. There's something about the context of this one that I'm a bit leery of, despite the positive reviews. I think I just need to be in the right mindframe...and have some time.

  1. You totally are crazy for waiting on ANNA. It's so good! Take the plunge! ;)

  2. Yeah, I wouldn't advise reading Evermore. It made me sooo frustrated! Anna, on the other hand... *readies tar and feathers* :P

  3. I totally understand you when you say that you're scared of Anna and the French Kiss. In fact, because of all the love for it, I WANTED to hate it. But as I read it, I couldn't hate it. Not ever. It's just too amazing. Please read it! And if you're disappointed... well, then, maybe tar and feather is a good idea.

My friend just read Birthmarked and said it was "weird, but good." That doesn't really help me make a decision, but maybe it'll help for you?

  4. PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE read Birthmarked! It's such an amazing book. It's a bit out there at times, but I've really fallen for this book.

And of course, Anna and the French Kiss. Come on, it's almost a required read. I actually went into it really thinking that hundreds of people were wrong, but I finished the book in just one night. I NEVER read books in one sitting!

  5. Anna and the French Kiss has been on my shelf forever as well...kind of for the same reason as you: I'm afraid I won't be head over heels for it after all the hype.

  6. I still haven't read Anna and I thought I was the only one! I'm also having similar feelings about the end of Vampire Academy and I'm just terrible about finishing series in general. I think there are about 7 that have concluded, but I still haven't read the final book(s).

Of your list, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a tough (i.e. boring) read for about 50 pages, but if you get past those, it becomes gripping. Forgive My Fins is cute; not a must-read or anything, but quick, so you can probably finish it in an afternoon if you decide to.

  7. I'm going to echo those above me to say come on! You have to read Anna! It's so good. You definitely won't regret it - I think it's impossible to hate.
And a word of advice? You shouldn't be too concerned about reading Torment - it doesn't get much better.
    Great list!

  8. Oh Melissa..please read ANNA. If only because LOLA is even better and you have to read that!

Also, I really liked the It Girl series pre-blog, but haven't kept up (if they are even still coming out!) since.

  9. What a great idea for a meme! I am going to have to do this one. I've read Anna And The French Kiss, it's good, but definitely waitable to read.

  10. The Duff is way better than Shut Out. You might be surprised. It was one of my fave books from last year. There's a good message behind it.. and the characters are actually deeper than you may suspect.

  11. They all sound fun, but you really should read Anna and The French Kiss.

  12. Dragon Tattoo wasn't for me, either. A lot of people liked it, though. So you never know . . .

  13. Ooooooooo Anna. I need to try that one. I'm so guilty of keeping good books waiting.

  14. i just checked out Anna and the French Kiss from the library two days ago! i'm excited to finally get to it. well, i'm HOPEFUL my review schedule will let me get to it while i have it checked out. but YAY!

i read Dragon Tattoo, and it was intense. it took at least 100 pages to get into...lots of business and financial jargon that i really didn't understand. the payoff was excellent, but man, i had to work for it!

and birthmarked - i really want to read that one too, i just haven't gotten around to it!

i don't know that i would be able to give the keplinger books a go either.

  15. I never finished Dragon Tatto as I figured it all out ludicrously early. I seem to be in a minority though - most people rave about it - LOL!
Here’s my Top Ten Tuesday post. :)

  16. I won't tar and feather you for not having read Anna, but knowing you as I do, I do think you'll enjoy it. You may not be blown away, but it's just a really cute book. I giggled like an idiot while reading. Please read it and giggle too so I don't feel like a giggling idiot all by myself. I haven't read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo either, I might just wait for the movie to come out so I can stare at Daniel Craig:)

  17. Grrr...Tar! Feather! You must read Anna now! Like Jenny, I think you'll really like it. Forgive My Fins is very cute too...pretty silly but cute.

  18. I'll echo all of the comments ahead of me and say that Anna is a must read, so good.

I really liked Forgive My Fins too. Such a fast, fun read.

I read Evermore once, it needs a reread since I just bought the first three, and wasn't too thrilled with it. I'm not sure if it was the book itself or the reading funk I was in. :/

  19. I have The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Torment on my shelf too..I also have Fallen, I started but never finished..still debating on it..LOL

  20. I haven't read Anna and the French Kiss yet either. Birthmarked is really good, you should bump it up on your list. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a good series but he is a very meticulous writer so it takes awhile for the pace to pick up, so expect a slow start. As for the Fallen series, I have them but still haven't read them yet either.

  21. I bet you'll really like Birthmarked, I really love the characters and the concept. The sequel is great too.

As for Anna and the French Kiss, I don't think there is any way you could hate it - so don't worry! You might not LOVE it as much as everyone else does, but so what? I promise you'll enjoy it, even if you don't end up raving about it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I've heard lots of good things about Birthmarked - I need to read that one as well!

    ReplyDelete
  23. You have to read Anna and Spirit Bound.
    Like now.
Especially Spirit Bound. So you can read Last Sacrifice.
How are you not dying from not knowing how everything ends?!

  24. My heart breaks that you haven't read Anna and the French Kiss!

  25. What! You never read Anna and the French Kiss! Boo Melissa! Boo! Read it.

  26. You won't hate Anna and the French Kiss. I promise. :)

  27. Interesting that you don't dig Contemporary. It seems a lot taunting or mainly do just Contemporary.
I understand that sometimes I fear the hype.

  28. I bet you'll like Anna and the French Kiss. It really is a cute book, so I hope you do give it a try soon! :)

As for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I managed to finish it, but it was definitely not my style. It's something that not everyone will love, I'd say.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I haven't read The DUFF because of the content either. I just don't think I would enjoy it.

    Birthmarked is definitely worth reading!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Please finish the Vampire Academy serie! ;) It's worth it ;))

  31. Honestly, don't bother with Evermore. If it wasn't a library book, I would've hurled it across the room repeatedly. SO frustrating. As for Torment, there's really no additional information. It really suffers from the middle book syndrome. The series is on the back burner for me. If you're curious you can read my review: http://booksinthespotlight.blogspot.com/2010/11/torment.html
