As we all know, the book market (and the YA market in particular) is fast-becoming dominated by killer covers that rival the content of the books. I'm a self-professed cover slut, and I'm completely okay with that, but I think it's time we pay a little tribute to the fantastic covers on the market today. So, welcome to a brand new Friday feature at i swim for oceans!
Each week, I will feature a book with a cover that just blew my mind with its amazingness, and I invite you to join in. Simply post the cover, the author/publisher, the release date, why you love it and any other pertinent details you'd love to share with other cover-lovers out there. Want to join in? Simply link up and join the fun!
Title: Shatter Me
Publisher: HarperTeen
Publish Date: November 15, 2011
Genre: YA, Dystopian
Fun Fact: The "shatter" effect on the cover behind the model is not computer-generated, but rather a unique photography method called light painting by Aurora Crowley. Needless to say, it's gorgeous.
Why I Have Cover Lust: The contrast between dark and light + the fierce model + the unique font and the awesome title = perfection. Want.

I am really excited about the book! I love the cover :)
ReplyDeleteIsn't this cover gorgeous?
ReplyDeleteGreat feature! That is a beautiful eye-catching cover and I've heard wonderful things about the plot.
ReplyDeleteI am really excited about this book and I do like the cover but I don't really love it! I think it's the font of 'Shatter Me' that just puts me off a little bit.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really a huge fan of models so blatant on the cover. She's the focal point and I'm afraid she'll interfere with my perception of the character. Not wild about the tagline either.
ReplyDeleteThe light effect is magnificent, though.
This is such a great idea for a feature! I will have to link up next week.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am not a huge fan of this cover but I do like the shatter effect on the background :)
I actually dislike it :/
ReplyDeleteBut I love the feature!
I also think I've seen better ones but perhaps I am spoiled. Thanks for sharing nevertheless!
ReplyDeleteI love this cover but I think the model looks scared - not lethal or powerful.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree that it's eye catching, but it isn't doing for me what it's doing for you. I like the shattering effect but the girl doesn't seem to fit in to me.
ReplyDeleteLove it! I was going to choose this one, too, but I went ahead with a different one.
ReplyDeleteThis cover is so beautiful. Love the model, dress and water effect! <3
ReplyDeleteYep, that's a pretty cover! ;)
ReplyDeleteI had to just to read this book already and loved it! The cover is perfect!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!!! As much as I would love to wear that dress, I know I would get it dirty within .5 seconds of wearing it. I'm super good at ruining nice clothes. It's a gift really. So excited to read this one!
ReplyDeleteNice feature! I'm definitely a fan of the background of Shatter Me's cover. It looks amazing! I'm not too sure how I feel about the model, though...something about her doesn't appeal to me. *shrug*
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for this book...but to be honest I cannot stand this cover.
ReplyDeleteI love the creative lighting effects for this one, it's very different!
ReplyDeleteThe background image in this pic is my favorite part of the cover. That and her dress. :D
ReplyDeleteJen
In the Closet With a Bibliophile
Fierce is a perfect word for her!
ReplyDeleteHmmm ... no ... the cover does NOT do it for me, lol ... but it will probably look way better on the actual book. I've been following the author's blog for a long time, though, and she's so lovely that I'd buy and read her book no matter HOW it looked!! :)
ReplyDeleteThis cover is gorgeous. Makes me even more excited for release day.
ReplyDeleteOh, interesting. I didn't know that about the photography method. I'm still wondering what a girl in a pretty dress has to do with being locked up in solitary confinement for 264 days but I can't wait to find out!
ReplyDeleteCool meme! I've been dying to see this cover. It's definitely awesome! That's neat about the photography. Love when stuff is done naturally and not with CGI. Great choice for your first Cover Love. Cute button :)
ReplyDeleteThe book sounds great. The picture looks so wonderful. I'll buy the book just because of the sexy cover.
ReplyDeletesexy panty
That cover looks so powerful. I wonder how she'll look if it were styled differently. Say, if she had worn wholesale clothes would it have been the same?
