Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine, and specifically spotlights upcoming novels we can't wait to read. As always, there are some amazing upcoming books, but this week I'm particularly excited for...
Title: The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight
Author: Jennifer E. Smith
Publisher: Poppy
Published: January 2, 2012
Genre: YA, Contemporary
Pages: 256
Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?
Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan's life. She's stuck at JFK, late to her father's second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon to be step-mother that Hadley's never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport's cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he's British, and he's in seat 18B. Hadley's in 18A.
Twists of fate and quirks of timing play out in this thoughtful novel about family connections, second chances and first loves. Set over a 24-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver's story will make you believe that true love finds you when you're least expecting it.
You know what The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight sounds like it has? Whimsy. I'm looking for a lil' of that on my shelf these days. More and more, I'm beginning to find some great contemps out there, and I love that this is set in such a restricted time period. If done well, this could make for a fabulous and unique read. Plus, let's be honest...who doesn't want to believe in love at first sight? What do you think, and what are you waiting on this week?
Great pick! This one sounds really good :)

You're right. Whimsy is missing from my bookshelf these days, too! While there are a ton of fantastic books out there, they seem to be very serious lately. This one is definitely on my wishlist!

First of all, love the word whimsy, so excellently played there. Also, I would say that everyone would like to believe in love at first sight or true love or soul mates, I think that's why books about such topics hit home so much. We want to believe in it as much as possible...give hope to a world that seems dark at times. I'm definitely wanting this one. I also like the title, LOL!

I like the font on the cover, it practically screams contemporary! That being said, I tend to shy away from books that feature romance as a main topic, y'know?
ReplyDeleteBut I've heard a lot of good things about this one!
Can't wait for this one! It sounds really cute :). Plus the cover is awesome - I wish we had the same cover here in the UK, but they had to go and change it -_-. Oh well, the book sounds great anyway. Nice pick!
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing this book on a few people's Wishlist already. Good choice. Come visit me over at Livre De Amour-Books of Love.
ReplyDeleteEven if this book didn't sound so cute, I would read it based on the title alone! LOVE.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm super excited for this one too! I agree that it sounds like it has whimsy. Sounds like an amazing read!
ReplyDeleteI agree that this looks great. For some reason, the cover makes me think of a David Levithan book. Don't know why. Looks artsy?
ReplyDeleteI just have this good feeling inside that this will be one of those reads that will become an instant favourite! Awesome WoW pick, Melissa! :)
ReplyDeleteThis was my pick as well this week! Whimsy is a great word to describe it - can't you just sense that it would make a most excellent movie?
ReplyDeleteI have seen this around and I definitely want to read it=)
