Bookish Feature: The Official Divergent Trailer

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

Today's Top Ten Tuesday post is actually one I did back in 2011 (go figure...clearly I've been blogging too long), so I decided to feature a little something else today. Guys, in case you didn't know, other things happened at Sunday's MTV VMA awards than Miley Cyrus killing the image of Hannah Montana forever.

What could possibly have topped that, you ask? Well, they released the first official Divergent trailer, of course! I, for one, have been terrified to see what Hollywood is doing with one of my favourite series, so I watched it with baited breath. If you've yet to see it, please feel free to check it out below:

But here's the thing, my friends. I really liked it. I was so, so, so skeptical of seeing Shailene Woodley in the role of Tris because, let's be honest, all I know her in is The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and that didn't really have any emotion in it at all. I'm not yet sure how I feel about the casting of Theo James as Four, but I really think there might be hope for Divergent yet.

I certainly have no expectations for this film to be better with the book because I really don't think that's possible. However, I think it's important to separate the two, to an extent. And, by thinking of the trailer as such, I have a lot of hope!

Have you guys had some time to digest the trailer yet? What do you think about it?

  1. I really like this trailer too. It looks like they're staying pretty faithful to the book, which is good. And I like Four. I think a couple people don't like him for the role/think he looks too old, but something about him works for me. I've never seen the actor in anything before, so I'm basically going on looks here. Ha! Don't judge! ;)

    1. Yeah, I personally think he just looks a bit old for what was in my mind, but who knows? Maybe he'll pull it off as well as she seems to!

  2. I really did like the trailer too Melissa, I'm still not feeling Four either, as no one can really match the image I have ingrained of him in my head already, but I'm hoping that he'll definitely win me over in the film. Thanks for sharing this trailer with us Melissa! :)

  3. Shailene Woodley being casted made me nearly go full on rage-crazy but now seeing the trailer, I am so damn excited!

    Thanks for sharing, Melissa! <33

    1. Oh gosh, me too. Melanie, I was SO angry, but she might just be able to pull it off?! O.O

  4. Woodley seems like a good actress and so does Theo James, but honestly, I'm just not feeling them. I think I'm still way too stuck on the image I have of the characters inside my head and I refuse too budge away from that. Doesn't Theo James seem way too old to play Four to you?
Anyways, I have absolutely no expectations for this movie because I had high hopes for City of Bones too after watching the trailer and apparently it wasn't all that great and some scenes were butchered. Still though, this one does seem a tad bit better than City of Bones.

  5. I seem to have the opposite reaction to most people, just because in the trailer, Woodley is the one I'm doubting. I had much more of a mental image for Tris than Four (which is weird) so I can accept Theo James. I have hopes for the movie.

  6. IT LOOKS AWESOME MELISSA! I'm so excited:) I'm so in love with Four and the fact that he's a bit older than he is in the books - I don't feel quite so creepy perving on him now since he's closer to my age. He looks badass in this movie!

  7. Eep! That looks awesome. I better get to reading, at least Divergent. As for Shailene Woodley, if you can find The Descendants, watch that. You'll change your mind about what you already know.

  8. I think I'm starting to get used to the idea of Theo James as Four actually. It's Shailene Woodley that I'm still not too sure about. But I guess I can't really judge until after seeing the movie. I have to admit, the trailer looks better than I thought it would, though I don't want to raise my expectations too high. :) Thanks for sharing!

  10. I still haven't watched the trailer yet. I'm holding off. Not sure why, but I'm nervous about it being bad. I like Shailene although I've never seen her act so I'm basing it on photos and interviews. I'm more excited to see her in TFIOS.

  11. My librarian friend sent this to me today and now, I'm totally in. I've highly enjoyed the series and boy-howdy, I'm pretty darned excited about this movie. I do hope it does well!

  12. I am SO excited for this! I love the cast, especially Shailene, and although I'm not 100% sold on Theo, he IS swoony and I'm hoping he'll be like Josh Hutcherson - not someone I pictured for the role, but someone who can act it out and convince me. Thanks for sharing, Melissa - I can't get tired of watching this!

  13. After the disappointing, B-grade VA Trailer, I was super pleased to see this awesome trailer! And Four....*drools* I could keep watching and watching this, it just looks amazing.

  15. I thought the trailer was great and I was happy that I saw some of the iconic moments from the book. I also think the cast is pretty spot on so I'm looking forward to seeing it!
