News on the new site! - SWIM

Monday, December 6, 2010

Lindsi from Books, Sweets & Other Treats and I are launching our brand new eco-conservation and animal activism site this week, and I wanted to invite you all to keep an open mind and check out the new site when it’s completely up and running (we’ll let you know!) The site has been a labour of love for us, as well as a lifelong goal, so we’re excited to share it with the rest of you. We may not be even remotely famous, but we hope to show people that no matter where you’re from or what you do – you can make a difference in the world.

Lindsi and I met through the book blogging community – originally through Goodreads, and I was immediately inspired by her passion for everything she does. From enjoying life on a daily basis, to a steadfast view on animal and ecological issues, Lindsi and I clicked and we became friends, bonding over our love of animals (and books, of course). We decided to launch SWIM (Saving Wildlife in Motion) together to get better community involvement. SWIM will feature four charities per year, each of whom we will monetarily support for 3 months. There will be merchandise to buy (all proceeds to charity), news, tips, and more ways to get involved.

Both of us have been adopting animals since we were little – always strays, always rescues. Lindsi loves to plant flowers and try her hand at vegetable gardens, while I love to find ways to raise money through my greatest passion – swimming. By combining our ideas, we hope to raise greater awareness to the issues regarding animals and the environment in the world today.

Whether you’re new to activism, or just testing the waters (no pun intended), we’d love for you guys to check out SWIM as soon as it’s up and running. Also, please feel free to check out Lindsi’s blog, too…she’s amazing, and this site wouldn't be half of what we hope it to be without her!

Also, keep your eyes peeled, kiddos! We’re going to be tweeting (@melissaswims and @lindsiking) ways to win prizes as we prepare to launch SWIM, so get excited! There might just be an opportunity for 20 extra entries to my international blogoversary giveaway ;)

  6. I'm gushing... As a scientist I feel that the oceans are very important. My latest research has been on the shark finning and the effect it is having on the ocean. Ladies, please do come to me if you ever need a extra hand in this project in anyway. Sustainability is a huge part of my life and it should be shared.

*grin* *smirks* You ladies are doing great things!
